This year’s Hampshire Closed is taking place on 1st March. As usual this will serve as Trials for the Southern Area Intercounties team tournament.
The event is not age or grade banded, and no technique restrictions are applied – all drop and sacrifice techniques are permitted.

Players about to begin a newaza practice
It is already shaping up to be a busy year – Hampshire has already released their dates for 2015, with entry open now…
Holbrook Judo Club will be hosting our friends from Royan, France May 14 – 18, hopefully some of our players will involve themselves.
Holbrook are also planning on hosting a Red Belt Rumble for Portsmouth area clubs in April, we will plan our next grading around this date.
We will be identifying further competitions as the year goes on.
It is with much sadness that we announce the death of Julie Jones, wife of Kev and mother of Craig and Owen.
Julie passed away in hospital in the early hours of Monday 15 December, after battling with illness for some time.
Julie was well known to many, both in her role as lunchtime supervisor at Court Lane Junior School and as a volunteer at the Club for many years, welcoming people as they came through the door, collecting mat fees and contributing greatly to the collective heart of the Club.
Her absence will be felt by many, and our heartfelt condolences go to Kev, Craig and Owen.
A funeral service will be held at Portchester Crematorium on Monday 29 December, at 3pm.

As with last week, that brings us some new belts – yellow and orange – and is a testament to how hard the players have worked and prepared for the grading. Very well done everyone.
We have one or two more players to assess, and wish them good luck next week.
During the grading process, we have identified one or two players who are under graded, due to having missed grading opportunities in the past. These players may be given the opportunity to grade again prior to the main Club grading, in order that their grades more accurately reflect their ability and attainment.
Funds raised for the Club via the easyfundraising website have today broken the £50 barrier.

£50 represents the cost of hiring the hall for one Thursday evening, or (nearly) a 1×1 metre judo mat.

However as a community based Club we cannot ignore what happens in the streets around us, and we are sorry to note that there has been yet another arson attack, as reported in the News on 3 November.
Once again, we urge you all to make sure your properties are secure and no flammable materials are left accessible. Please report any suspicious activity or information that you may have.
The school have noted our concerns over the parking restrictions last Tuesday but have confirmed that once again the playground will NOT be available for parking by anyone this Thursday.
Please consider how you travel to the Club, as parking will be very difficult in Hilary Avenue.
Apologies for the late notice, have just seen an email sent from the school late yesterday afternoon advising that parking will not be available at the school for club members on the evening of Tuesday 4 and Thursday 6 November, due to the desire to keep the playground free for parking for parents evenings.
The playground gates were not unlocked for anyone tonight, in consequence Hilary Avenue was very congested and dangerous in the dark, with lots of parents and children milling about and cars parked everywhere.
We have spoken to the school caretaker and also emailed the school office to advise how dangerous the road outside the school was.

The British Judo Association has announced the sale of tickets for next year’s Euroepan Championships, to be held in Glasgow’s Emirates Arena, home of the 2012 Commonwealth Games.
Prices are extremely reasonable – far more so than Olympic and Commonwealth Games.
