As we discussed in the Club before we closed for half term, arsonists are known to be operating in the area. Several club members have experienced attacks on or near their property.

Advice from the Hampshire Arson Taskforce is:
Put refuse in a strong, lockable container. Do not let it build up. If necessary, arrange for extra refuse collections.
Place rubbish bins/skips in a secure compound well away from buildings.
Do not store rubbish or refuse containers near windows, doors, or other openings, this may promote the rapid spread of fire.
Be vigilant – if there is evidence of vandalism, make sure it is cleared up to minimise the risk of becoming a target for arsonists.
Consider the installation and positioning of PIR (motions sensor) lighting and CCTV.

Hampshire Constabulary are interested to hear about anything unusual or suspicious as well as anyone who is usually out and about in the early hours, perhaps coming or going from work – they would not necessarily be suspects but could be potential witnesses.

If any of your neighbours are elderly or disabled perhaps you could offer to check their property and help to secure gates, doors and windows to outbuildings.

If you have any information, however insignificant it may seem, please call the Police on 101 or Southern Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 to report anonymously.

If you suspect someone is setting a fire call 999 immediately.
