We are delighted to confirm that Brett, our own 2005 British champion and former -21 Commonwealth champion, will be attending the session with Nekoda Davis on 5th May.

Congratulations to our latest new grades!
We are delighted to confirm the following new grades:
2nd mon
- Samuel Allen
7th mon (orange belt)
- Alex Lane
- Jeremy Allen
As we are now have several mid grade players, we will be encouraging players to move up to later sessions – we wil speak to players individually over the next few weeks.
This will enable us to focus our coaching more appropriately.
Hampshire Closed success for Isla
Two players represented the Club at today’s Hampshire Closed, in Aldershot.
Kaiden Southey delivered his best competition performance to date, beating players graded a whole belt or more higher than him, to reach the 2nd round of pools in his weight.
Isla Savellis-Fry proved that her last competition medal was no fluke, with a totally focussed performance in the girls -63kg. 4 wins out of 5 secured her a silver medal, and an invitation to train with the Hampshire squad – the first Court Lane female player to receive such an invitation.
Well done to both players, great results in our 25th year!

Spring grading dates
Club gradings will be held on the following dates in March:
- Tuesday 20th
- Thursday 22nd
- Tuesday 27th
- Thursday 29th
Your licence must be in date to grade. Please note that new grades will only be registered with the BJA once the appropriate grading fee has been received. Grading fee of £12 will be applied, except for JudoKids where the grading is free. Players on the Yellow Belt Challenge should produce the grading voucher sent in their registration documents. Regular mat fee will also apply.

Grade promotion follows competition success
A snap grading was held after Isla’s gold medal success at Worthing, and we are delighted to announce that without prior preparation, Isla successfully passed the examination for her 5th mon.
This grade has been registered with the British Judo Association.
There are other players who we may approach to grade, in advance of the main club gradings to be scheduled for March/April
Sam Potts to lead next Hampshire Judo squad session

Sunday 11th February is the last county training before the Hampshire County Championships (4th March at JC Osaka). Entry forms can be found at Hampshire judo web site, entry cost is confirmed as £16.00 per player.
Sussex county were invited to attend this session but because of other commitments cannot attend, so it is Hampshire only.
We have an invited guest, Sam Potts 3 times British champion and current British no 2 who will be coming along to put our players through their paces.
The session is being held at Holbrook Judo Club Gym No 1, Brune Park School, Military Road, Gosport PO12 3BU 10.00 -12.00.
Please allow time to arrive, park, change & register ready for the session to start promptly at 10.00.
For those who have not been to Brune Park previously as you pass through the gates the sports complex is on the right, the main car park is in front of the sports complex, if there is not adequate parking in the main car park there is an overspill car park to the left of the main gate. Follow signs to the Oasis Block as you enter it continue through the building past the swimming pool, the changing rooms are outside gym 1 (girls) and at the far end of the building outside of gym 2 (boys).

Next date for Hampshire training (which will also include seniors up to the intercounties in May) is 11th March at JC Osaka which will see all medallists from this year’s Closed Championships invited.
This will be followed by a session in April (date to be confirmed)
No judo during February half term
Please note that there will be no judo over the February half term:
- Tuesday 13 February
- Thursday 15 February
Classes will resume as normal on Tuesday 20 February.
Players are urged to attend the Hampshire squad session on Sunday 11 February at Holbrook Judo Club.
Olympian Nekoda Davis to run session at Club
We are delighted to announce that Rio Olympian Nekoda Smythe-Davis has agreed to run a session at the Club.
As well as representing Team GB at the 2016 Olympics, Nekoda won Commonwealth Games gold for England at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and a bronze medal at the 2017 Budapest World Championships.
Nekoda will be at the Club on Saturday 5th May, running a session from 1-3pm, with a meet and greet and photo opportunities after.
Prior booking and payment for this session will be essential, with priority being given to currently active players.
Full details of pricing and how to register will be released after half term.
Golden start to Club’s 25th year
Isla Savellis-Fry made a golden start to the Club’s 25th year with a gold medal at Sunday’s South Coast Split Grade Green Belt & Under competition.
Fighting in the Red & Yellow Belt section, Isla was in dominant form, winning all 4 of her fights with maximum ippon scores. Two of these contests were against players in a heavier weight category who had been combined with Isla’s group.
Isla joins a small group of female medallists from the Club – Kate Borland, Tiffany Caswell, Sophie Read, Sophie Dolman, Sarah Carr and Jess Oakden.
A fantastic start to the year, and a brilliant result for all Isla’s hard work and focus.
Isla wasn’t the only player in action. Jorge Nogueira and Dylan Butcher also contested the Red & Yellow Belt section. Dylan was the lightest player in his weight and had several good fights, although the essential win eluded him. Jorge’s first contest was a short affair, being thrown almost immediately with uchi mata, but in his second contest he held his own for most of the duration.
A good way to start the year!
Court Lane players making competition debuts this weekend
Three players will be representing the Club at this weekend’s Split Grade Green & Under competition in Worthing, two of them making their competitive debuts.
Leading the challenge will be Isla Savellis-Fry, whilst representing the boys and making their debuts will be Dylan Butcher and Jorge Nogueira.
All players have put in a lot of very competition orientated practice since we came back from the Christmas break, now to put it into practice!
Don’t forget to pack:
- Judogi, including zori;
- Licence (make sure it is in date)
- Food and drink
Kevin and Craig Jones will be there in support.
