Senior session to close

Regrettably, we have been forced to take the decision to close our adult class, with immediate effect.

Lack of attendance from the players we were hoping to build this session around, allied to other players moving away, makes it unfeasible to offer this session at the moment.

To hire a hall and have no or maybe only 1 player turn up, does not make sense financially or for our own motivation

We hope at some point to be able to offer an adult session again. In the meantime, adult sessions can be found at:

  • Fort Purbrook Judo Club
  • Priory Judo Club
  • Meridian Judo Club
  • Gosport Judo Club
  • Holbrook Judo Club

Our junior classes are unaffected and continue to thrive as we head into our 25th year.

Hampshire Closed to return in 2018

Hampshire Judo will once again be hosting a Closed tournament in 2018.

The date has been provisionally set for 4 March, with medallists being invited to attend future Hampshire squad sessions.

In our 25th year, it would be great to see a large entry for this event – it has traditionally been a successful event for Court Lane. Azhar and Jack (with a 10 fight epic in 2016) have been amongst our most recent medallists.

Bronze medal for Dean at Hampshire Open

Congratulations to Dean Smith, who today claimed a bronze medal at -81kg in the senior Hampshire Open.

Summer judo is GO!

For the first time in several years, we are able to run Judo classes over the school break.

Full details of our summer programme are below – details of Saturday training sessions at Holbrook Judo Club to which we are invited, are also included.

Saturday 22 July, 10-12 noon – Holbrook Judo Club, Brune Park Community School, Gosport. £6 mat fee

  • Tuesday 25 July – Court Lane, regular classes
  • Saturday 29 July – Holbrook Judo Club
  • Tuesday 1 August – Outdoor fitness session at Hilsea Creek.
  • Saturday 5 August – Holbrook Judo Club
  • Tuesday 8 August – Outdoor fitness session at Hilsea Creek
  • Saturday 12 August – Holbrook Judo Club
  • Tuesday 15 August – Judo at Court Lane, regular mat times (6-7, 7-8pm)
  • Tuesday 22 August – Court Lane
  • Tuesday 29 August – Court Lane
  • Tuesday 5 September – regular classes (Tuesday and Thursday) resume

PLEASE support these sessions if you are free, neither us or Paul at Holbrook have been able to run summer sessions for some time, whether we can do so in future depends on your support.

Junior mat fee increase

Please note that as of September, junior mat fees will rise to £5.00 per session. A second session on the same evening will be held at £2.00.

Senior mat fees are unchanged (at £5.00).

We are aware of the impact this will have financially on families who have two or more children attending and are considering a number of schemes to offer discounted fees for additional children.

You can help us to offset additional fee increases by supporting the club through the various schemes offered on our fundraising pages.

Next Hampshire squad session to be held in Gosport

Following on from a gold medal winning performance at the recent Southern Area intercounties tournament, the next Hampshire Squad session will be held this Friday (16th June) at Holbrook Judo Club, details below:

  • Time: 19.30 – 21.00
  • Location: Gym no 1, Brune Park School, Military Road, Gosport, PO12 3BU.
  • Mat fee: £5.00.

Jack and Jonty have supported the squad from the beginning, with Jack being selected as reserve for the intercounty tournament. Sam and Jacob have also attended. It would be fantastic to see more Court Lane players attending.

Classes resume this week

After the interruptions of May half term and the General Election, normal classes resume this week.

Please note however that the Tuesday evening adult class is still suspended.

Adult class suspended

Reluctantly we have decided to suspend our Tuesday adult class.

Recent numbers have not justified or covered the cost of hall hire – Andy has moved out of the area, Matt is at University, and those we would look at moving up to this session (Jonty, Azhar) are deep into examinations. As a consequence, Dean has sometimes been the only attendee.

Any adult players wishing to train should therefore please attend 7-8pm on Tuesday, they are also welcome at the 7-8pm Thursday session.

We hope to restart the Tuesday adult session in September.

Bronze medal at Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt competition

Kaiden Southey and Dylan Butcher represented the Club at the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt tournament on 30 April.

Both players fought against competitors much higher graded than themselves but gave a good account of themselves.

Fighting in a pool of 4, Kaiden returned with a bronze medal, whilst Dylan was eliminated from the competition after two fights in a knock out with repechage format.

Classes recommence Tuesday

Judo classes recommence at Court Lane Judo Club on Tuesday 25 April.

Classes run on Tuesday and Thursday evenings – a full training schedule is available on the Club website.

All players are welcome, including beginners aged 5 years and over.

New players aged 11-25 may benefit from the Yellow Belt Challenge, run by the Fighting Chance project. Eligible players qualify for a free judo suit, free one year membership to the British Judo Association and up to four gradings.

See you on the mat!
