We will be running taster sessions throughout the day during the Court Lane Junior School Summer Fair on July 11th. Why not come along and try out this exciting Olympic martial art?
All club players are welcome to drop in and assist during the sessions.
Make sure you don’t miss our demonstration team at 11.45! Our team includes players who have represented both Portsmouth and Hampshire, and competed in international tournaments.
Doors open at 10am.
July looks like being a busy month, ahead of our closure for the summer holidays.
We will announce details of our summer training programme shortly – we are hoping to repeat last year’s initiative and meet once a week for an hour of fun and fitness at Hilsea Moat.
Court Lane and Holbrook players in Royan
Court Lane players are once again invited to train with Holbrook Judo Club, on July 4th. The session will be led by David Tooby, with Paul Vella and Kieron Eagles.
All players attending will benefit from training with other players. Additionally, mat fees from this session go towards subsidising travel and gifts for next year’s visit to Royan.
We have agreed with Holbrook JC that priority for non-Holbrook players wishing to travel to Royan next year, will be given to those who have supported these additional sessions.
The session will run from 10 – 12noon at Brune Park School, Military Road, Gosport.
Harry and Emily
Harry and Emily of Sport Hampshire and IoW will be visiting the Club on Tuesday 14 July to take part in a session.
Inspired by last year’s Commonwealth Games, they have undertaken to try 50 different sports in a year… they are now into the final 10… You can follow their adventures via their blog.
We look forward to hosting them.
Following Tuesday night’s Hampshire committee meeting, proposed new date for the Judo competition is at the end of October.
Availability is to be confirmed with Fleming Park Leisure Centre
We have received entry forms for the above Championships, to be held at High Wycombe Judo Centre in July.
Looking at the grade banding, I would expect this to be very competitive, so not suitable for those players with little or no competition experience.
SPLIT GRADES – THE DON WERNER MEMORIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS 20 July 2015 KH
As you are probably all aware by now, the Judo competition scheduled for Saturday 20 June as part of this year’s Hampshire & Isle of Wight Games, was cancelled late on Friday afternoon. Here is the official announcement from Lynn Stringer on Hampshire Judo’s Facebook page:
HAMPSHIRE GAMES – JUDO
Just to let you know, we have decided to postpone the Judo event which was due to be held at Fleming Park Eastleigh tomorrow.
Due to the low level of entries we decided that it wasn’t fair on the children to expect them to turn out for a couple of fights each. Paul [Hamilton – Hampshire Chair], Peter [Blakemore – Competition organiser]and I will be at the Hampshire Judo Committee Meeting on Tuesday, and we will find an [sic] suitable time later in the year to hold the event. This will give all the areas time to hold selection trials, and get a team together. I will send out full details once a decision has been made on the new date.
Apologies for the short notice, but hopefully everyone will benefit from the delay and we will have a great day later in the year.
As soon as I have any more information regarding dates, format I will let you all know.

Great Britain’s -66kg fighter Colin Oates will be competing at Baku
Today marks the first day of the first ever European Games, being held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Putting aside for the moment the ongoing controversy over Aerbaijan’s human rights record, and the cancellation of the BJA-hosted European Judo Championships which have now been incorporated within the Games, it promises some great sport and vital Olympic qualification points.
Judo begins on Day 13, Thursday 25 June.

Our display team will be in action this Saturday at Solent Junior School.
Eight of our players have been rehearsing hard to put together a 20 minute demonstration for the school’s summer fair this Saturday.
The fair opens at 11.30, we will be taking to “the stage” at 13.30.

Roy Inman OBE
We were saddened today to hear of the passing of Roy Inman OBE, 9th dan.
Roy could justifiably claim to be the world’s most successful coach, developing many World, Olympic and European medallists, including Hampshire’s own Kate Howey MBE (World Champion 1997, Olympic medallist 1992, 2000).
In their early days as coaches, Tony Brown and Jill Brown attended many coaching seminars led by Roy, and always came away highly motivated. He also visited Havant Judokwai, and coached Brett Caswell at Bath University.
He will be much missed.
