We are delighted to announce another three successful gradings:
Sophie Rogerson – 5 mon
Jack Rogerson – 8 mon
Azhar Baree – 12 mon
Grades will be registered with the BJA as soon as possible.
There are a few players we are expecting to represent themselves over the next couple of sessions.
The next grading will be in the autumn.
A recent consultation exercise recommended that the BJA syllabus remain technically based, rather than reverting to the previous competitive grading system. As coaches, we support this approach, however would like to draw players attention to the following, which we have extracted from the syllabus as published on the BJA website.
RECOMMENDED COMPETITION/ RANDORI PROGRAMME
We will shortly publish an updated list of all forthcoming suitable competitions.
We continue to urge players to support the Saturday sessions at Holbrook – it is a great way to gain experience of training and competing with other judoka. The forthcoming visit by French players from Le Havre offers another great opportunity for some of our players. More details to be published shortly!
Stephanie Inglis
Many of you will have seen the devastating news about Scottish Commonwealth Games judo medallist Stephanie Inglis. The story first broke on Thursday evening via social media, and has been widely picked up via all the main news channels over the weekend.
If anyone would like to donate to the fund to help pay for her medical treatment and evacuation home, they can do so via the gofundme website.
Donations stand at £150,ooo but a LOT more is needed.
I am sure the global judo family will pull together to help Stephanie.
Judo training
There have been some changes to the previously announced Saturday training programme. Revised details are below:
30 April – Guest coaches Derek & Sarah Hopkins, multiple medallists at European and World Masters.
14 May – Guest coach Ronda Crampton-Reid, 2016 Commonwealth Judo Masters gold medallist .
4-5 June – training and competition with French delegation.
25 June – Guest coach Lance Wicks, New Zealand
2 July – Randori
16 July – Guest coach Sam Potts, GB international
Sessions are hosted by Holbrook Judo Club at Brune Park Community School, Military Road, Gosport, and run from 10 – 12noon. Mat fee is £6.00.

New fees come into effect from Tuesday 3rd May.

Players from Le Havre will be visiting the Portsmouth area over the weekend 4-5 June.
Judo activities will be co-ordinated by Holbrook Judo Club.
Court Lane players are actively encouraged to take part.
We are also still looking for host families, if you can help please talk to Paul Vella at Holbrook Judo Club.
It is hoped that we can visit Le Havre later in the year.
Sarah Hopkins at Holbrook
Holbrook Judo Club have published their next range of Saturday training dates – these are a brilliant opportunity to get some more practice in with different players.
Holbrook have recently won the Hampshire Junior Team Championships AND taken a number of medals at the 2016 Hampshire Closed, so please take advantage of this opportunity.
Dates are:
23 April – Randori
30 April – with Derek and Sarah Hopkins, multiple British, European and World Masters medallists
28 May – Coach to be announced – rumour is it is GB International Sam Potts…
25 June – Coach to be announced
2 July – Randori
All sessions are held at Brune Park Community School, Military Road, Gosport, between 10am and 12 noon. There is a £6 mat fee.
There is a café on site serving cooked breakfasts if you need any more motivation…!
Action from 2009 Championships
The entry for this year’s Hampshire Closed closes on Monday, 11th April – the competition is Saturday 16th.
This year’s competition will be held at Fleming Park in Eastleigh.

Xander Harris and Toby Winfield represented the Club in the third and final round of the Hampshire Junior Team Championships.
Gaps in the team were generously made up by players from Holbrook Judo Club, meaning that we fielded a full team for the first time.
Throughout the whole event, we have given novice players their first experience of competition:

We have struggled to field a full team, as most of our players were in the same weight group! Hopefully next year we can fill more weights and give more players a chance. All the players who have taken part have gained valuable experience and developed as a consequence.
