If you are like me, you are probably excited by this, although it probably is going to be too wet for it to settle.
It may possible cause some disruption however, especially as it appears likely to hit Portsmouth during the evening rush hour.
At present, we are planning on the Club being open as usual. If anything should change, we will endeavour to let people know via the Club website, Twitter and Facebook.
Halfway through our second week, and our exploration of the “Total Judo” model developed by Mark Huizinga (2000 Olympic champion, 5 times European Champion) is gathering pace.
We have already looked at his basic seoinage variation, and will continue to look at more versions of this as we carry on.
The “Huizinga roll” has been examined and with more practice, looks like developing into a nice technique for our players… oh, and some nice variations on sangaku also!
As he says on the Total Judo DVD, “This is not about being nice…”

The Club has received it’s first donation from the Portsmouth Lottery.
We receive 50p from every ticket sold from our page. You don’t need to live in Portsmouth to play the Lottery or be a member of the Club, so friends and family around the country can join in and help support the Club.
With prize funds of up to £25,000 to be won, it is a great way to support the Club.

Jonty on Southern Area medal podium
Jonty used the Southern Area Open on 12 November to make his first serious competition outing since 2014.
Fighting at -73kg, Jonty held Zodiac’s Herculas Pretorius for ippon, before facing Tonbridge’s Cameron Bradley for the gold medal. Jonty nearly won the fight in the opening exchanges when he countered Bradley’s uchimata for waza-ari with tani-otoshi.
Bradley carried on attacking, Jonty nearly scoring twice with uchimata sukashi, however it was Bradley who came out on top in the end, throwing Jonty for ippon.
This was a great result, and a well deserved silver medal for Jonty, against two players who were much more experienced than him. Jonty also put up a credible performance against an -81kg player who was added to the -73kg group.

Jack Rogerson, who is well on his way to becoming one of our most decorated players, fought a week later at the South Coast u16 Open. By his own admission, Jack turned in a curiously under-par performance and failed to get out of his pool. Never one to be disappointed, JAck is now targeting the Southern Area schools championships in January.
The dates have been confirmed for the visit of our friends from Royan, France in 2017.
The judo club will be visiting over the weekend of 19 – 22 May. As well as the judo club, there may be a paddle boarding club over the weekend.
This is a great chance to renew friendships made over the last few years, and take part in some great judo.
Host families are needed for the weekend, if anyone can host please let Tony or Kev know so that we can arrange with Paul at Holbrook Judo Club.
