Regrettably, we are unable to offer classes over the Easter holiday, as the school is not available for evening lets.
This means there will be no Judo on the following dates:
Classes will resume from Tuesday 25 April.
Kaiden Southey was the only member of the Club to compete at the recent Northern Home Counties Red & Yellow Belt Rumble, held at the High Wycombe Judo Centre.
Kaiden was one of the smallest and least experienced players to take part.
Whilst he was to finish outside the medals, Kaiden gave a good account of himself, with two good performances.
Players should now be looking to take part in the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt competition to be held at the end of April.
Bear Grylls
TV adventurer, author, Chief Scout and karate black belt Bear Grylls recently identified what he believes are the crucial attributes you need to succeed.
Speaking at a recent international education conference, Grylls said, “I wasn’t very good at school – and I struggled a lot with confidence.” .
But he says such early struggles can be better preparation than success coming too easily.
“The great people I know in life often struggled at school, because it was the struggle that developed their strength.”
He continued,
“The rewards in life don’t always go to the biggest or the bravest, the cleverest, or even the best.
“The rewards in life go to the dogged and the determined, to the tenacious, those who get back on their feet when they get kicked.”
This would very much fit in with the theories of mindset and willpower that we have mentioned earlier, looking at the work of Dweck and the writing of Charles Duhigg
Entry is now open for the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt Closed, to be held on 30 April at Fleming Park Leisure Centre.

Please note, this competition is being held AFTER our planned grading dates (we weren’t advised of dates). If any 6th mon players wish to compete, we are happy to grade these players only after the competition.

With a singular lack of fanfare, dates have appeared on the Hampshire Judo website for 2017 competitions.
With the redesign of Fleming Park Leisure Centre and lack of storage for Hampshire’s mats, the hunt is on for a suitable home for forthcoming competitions.
After a short break, adult judo classes will resume tonight, 8 – 9pm.

The weekend saw a Court Lane Judo Club supporter once again win on the Portsmouth Lottery!

It was announced on 13 March that Durban would no longer host the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
As reported by the BBC,
David Grevemberg, chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation, said the city did not meet the criteria set by his organisation, and the search for a new host city had already begun.
It appears that the decision is due to financial constraints faced by the South African Government.
Last month, South Africa’s sports minister Fikile Mbalula indicated Durban may not be able to host the 2022 event because of financial constraints.
“We gave it our best shot but we can’t go beyond. If the country says we don’t have this money, we can’t,” he said.
It’s clear that the global economic downturn and austerity is continuing to bite deep, as both the Olympics and Commonwealth Games struggle for hosts.
A number of British cities – including Liverpool and Birmingham – have expressed an interest in hosting the 2022 Games. Recent reports indicate that a joint bid may be accepted.
