September randori cancelled

Regrettably the County randori planned for 20 September has had to be cancelled, due to circumstances beyond the control of the organiser.

Hopefully the October session will go ahead as planned.

Fitness session Tuesday 5 August – revised parking instructions

Weather permitting, tomorrow night’s session will run as planned.

We have changed the suggested parking arrangements however – the Portsbridge car park is quite hard to access when traffic is busy.

Therefore, we recommend that you park in either:

Tudor Crescent, Highbury – at the foot of the “Curly Wurly” bridge and walk over the bridge to join us; or

Peronne Road, Hilsea – access is via Military Road, in between the former bus depot and the News Centre. This is the other end of the “Curly Wurly” bridge.

Confused? Hopefully this map will help!

We will again be using the grassed areas just to the eastern side of bridge.

See you there!

Marcus followed up strong performances at the Hampshire Closed and Hampshire and Isle Of Wight Games, with a medal winning performance at today’s Hampshire Open.

Competing in the lightest, -27kg, weight category, Marcus benefitted from a bye in the first round, and followed up with a win by penalties in the second.

This put him into the semifinal, with his opponent withdrawing injured partway through the match.

In the final, Marcus’ opponent took advantage of a moment’s hesitation to secure a strong hold down and secure the win.

Jack excels at Kent International

Crystal Palace, home of the Kent International

Crystal Palace, home of the Kent International

Jack Rogerson made up a massive jump in competition performance when he competed at the Kent International at Crystal Palace on 28 June.

As the photo above shows, Crystal Palace is a massive venue, and for the Kent International is usually laid for 7 full size mat areas. Add to that the huge numbers that the event draws, the humidity from the swimming pool that is under the same roof and only separated from the “arena” by a walkway – all told, Crystal Palace is a daunting venue.

Jack started strongly, with a win in the first round, before a second round loss put him into the repechage. Jack picked himself up and scored another good win, before a second defeat put him out of the tournament.

Jack is showing a fantastic level of consistency, and has a good platform to build from.
