A barrier is being added in the school car park that will reduce the number of available parking spaces to 4 or 5. Access to additional spaces beyond the barrier will be via an ANPR sensor, which obviously will exclude us from parking. This will also impact on other community users of the school e.g. Monday’s keep fit class, Saturday’s gymnastics….
I am in conversation with the school to see if alternative parking arrangements can be made, perhaps opening up a playground as used to be the case.
In the meantime, if you are forced to park in Hilary Avenue, please park considerately as residents are already in discussion with Portsmouth City Council re parking issues, speeding etc.
The new ANPR gates also potentially impact on fire evacuation routes from the hall, so we shall be checking out the alternative routes!

Chloe Lymer has kickstarted the autumn season with two strong competition performances at a high level.
Chloe contested the English Closed at the beginning of September, scoring a good win in her first fight before conceding defeats in her next two contests.
Chloe finished this up with a gold medal winning performance at the Surrey Open, beating players from a heavier weight group with a combination of throws and holds.
To round it off, Chloe has successfully passed her examination for 12th mon.
Well done Chloe!
We trust everyone has had an enjoyable summer break – we know some people are having a slightly prolonged sojourn overseas at the moment due to the recent air traffic control incident, we hope you all get home soon!
Classes resume on Tuesday 5 September, we can’t wait to see you back on the mat.
Before you return to judo, check to make sure your licence is in date. Some of you may be interested in the Surrey Minors, Pre-Cadet and Cadet Open. Kev will also have details of the Halloween novice tournament being organised by our friends at Holbrook Judo Club in Gosport.
Good luck to Chloe who competes in the English Closed this weekend.

We hope you all have an enjoyable summer break.
It’s important to keep your body fuelled when training. There is a lot of research available online and in print as to what to eat and when to eat.
All evidence suggests that there should be a clear 2 hour window between eating a meal and training. The body needs time to digest food before exercise.
Eating too much too soon before exercise can lead to feelings of sickness and in extreme cases the body will look to get rid of what it has eaten. Physiologically, this is because the body needs blood to aid in digestion – the same blood that it needs to transport oxygen to and remove lactic acids from working muscles. The body sees supporting exercise as more important – as part of its fight or flight response – and will therefore look to remove any obstacles to maintaining muscle efficiency.
We recognise that with the younger players starting training at 6pm it is difficult to achieve a 2 hour gap, but please can meals be kept light to minimise the risk of any unpleasant moments on the mat.

With the temperatures rising, please make sure you keep yourself hydrated and bring a drinks bottle tonight. We will make sure we add in extra breaks.
Take care to protect your skin from the effects of the sun – alongside the obvious risks of skin damage, judo suits and practice are unforgiving on sun burn!
