Hampshire Closed success

Players associated with the club put on a great performance at Sunday’s Hampshire Closed.

Ania Cardamas in the girl’s u36kg category delivered a silver medal winning performance. In a pool of 4., she beat her first opponent, holding for ippon, then scored a dominant performance, winning by 4 yukos, over her second opponent. She lost to the eventual gold medallist, being thrown for ippon with tsuri goshi.

Azamat Iiyassov, who also trains at Priory JC, competed in the men’s u90 2nd kyu and under category. In a similiar size group as Ania, all players ended up equal with 2 wins and 2 losses. Aza was deemed to be the winner by virtue of the fastest ippon score.

Both players are now eligible for selection for Hampshire team to compete in the forthcoming Southern Area team tournament.

Congratulations to both players!

Southern Area Closed

It’s been a long time since we have shared a competition result – so we are delighted to share the news of Ania Cardamas’ result at the Southern Area Closed on 16 November.

Ania, our newest club member, weighed in 32.9kg – just too heavy for the -32kg weigh category so had to fight up in -36kg. This weight category was then combined with -40kg due to low numbers, meaning Ania was giving away over 25% of her body weight in some of her contests.

Ania demonstrated the true judo value of courage and battled her way to a well deserved silver medal in the -36kg category.

We are extremely proud of her.
