Southern Area competitions
Some forthcoming competitions may be of interest to players:
- 24 June – Kent International, Gillingham (junior, 8-15 years)
- 25 June – Kent International, Gillingham (youth (15-20 years), senior and masters)
- 9 July – Surrey -16 Open, Redhill
- 9 July – Surrey Senior Open Blue Belt and Below, Redhill
The Kent International is grade banded for junior players (red & yellow, orange & green, blue & brown), and represents a very good of competition. Craig, Azhar and Jack have all competed here recently. This is always a popular competition, early entry is advised!
The Surrey -16 will be split red & yellow, and orange & green belts.

Bronze medal at Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt competition
Kaiden Southey and Dylan Butcher represented the Club at the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt tournament on 30 April.
Both players fought against competitors much higher graded than themselves but gave a good account of themselves.
Fighting in a pool of 4, Kaiden returned with a bronze medal, whilst Dylan was eliminated from the competition after two fights in a knock out with repechage format.

One week left to enter Red and Yellow Belt Closed
Entry closes on Monday 24 April for the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt competition.
We are hoping for a good entry from the Club – there are a lot of players who would benefit from this competition experience.
Please note that this is NOT a Rumble – competitors will fight through to a final four with medals for gold, silver and bronze positions.
Kaiden takes to the mat
Kaiden Southey was the only member of the Club to compete at the recent Northern Home Counties Red & Yellow Belt Rumble, held at the High Wycombe Judo Centre.
Kaiden was one of the smallest and least experienced players to take part.
Whilst he was to finish outside the medals, Kaiden gave a good account of himself, with two good performances.
Players should now be looking to take part in the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt competition to be held at the end of April.

Red & Yellow Belt entry form available
Entry is now open for the Hampshire Red & Yellow Belt Closed, to be held on 30 April at Fleming Park Leisure Centre.
Entry forms can be found on the Hampshire Judo website.
Please note, this competition is being held AFTER our planned grading dates (we weren’t advised of dates). If any 6th mon players wish to compete, we are happy to grade these players only after the competition.

With a singular lack of fanfare, dates have appeared on the Hampshire Judo website for 2017 competitions.
- 30 April – Red & Yellow Belt Closed – Fleming Park Leisure Centre, Eastleigh.
- 8 October – Special Needs Open – venue to be announced.
- 8 October – Hampshire Open – venue to be announced.
With the redesign of Fleming Park Leisure Centre and lack of storage for Hampshire’s mats, the hunt is on for a suitable home for forthcoming competitions.

Dean makes his competition debut
Dean training in Royan 2016
Dean Smith made his competition debut for the Club, competing at the South Coast Senior Kyu & Dan Open in Worthing on 19 February.
In a very evenly matched group, Dean won one and lost two contests.
Well done Dean!
Red Belts! Are you ready to rumble?

There is still time for our red belt ninjas to enter the Northern Home Counties Red Belt Rumble, to be held at High Wycombe Judo Centre on 18 March.
Closing date for this event is 11 March.
