Only two weeks in, and already we have our second winner of the year on the Portsmouth Lottery!

Playing the Lottery helps to support us, and other good causes in the City. A ticket only costs £1, with 50p coming to us and 10p going to a Community pot for grant making purposes.

Hampshire Squad this weekend

It’s the first Hampshire squad session of the year on Sunday, 12 January. The session is open to all competitive players, junior and senior, who are looking to improve.

The session will be held at Holbrook Judo Club, Brune Park School in Gosport. The session will start at 1000 and run to midday.

Lottery Winner!

The first weekend of 2025 was marked by success for one of our players on the Portsmouth Lottery, who successfully matched several numbers.

The Lottery is open to all players over 18, with 50% of each ticket sold being donated back to the Club and 10% to a Community pot supporting other activities in Portsmouth.

All grades have been registered with British Judo.

IMPORTANT UPDATE – No Judo for two weeks!

In a change to messages given yesterday, there will be no Judo next week or the week after.

As you may be aware, Court Lane Academy is piloting a two week October half term break. We were originally told that school staff would be on site in the first week and the hall would be available.

Jonty mentioned in despatches

Jonty Bassil gets a mention in the Royal Navy Judo Association’s contribution to the British Judo 2023-4 Annual Report, for his part in the National Teams.

This is not the first time the club or associated players have got a mention in BJA publications – the Club was featured several years ago when it received the Sport England Clubmark.

Goshin Jitsu Thursday

Last Thursday gave us a chance to practice the defences against unarmed attack from the Goshin Jitsu, the kata of modern self defence techniques. Kata is an element of judo that is growing in popularity in the UK and clearly shows the sport’s martial roots and self defence applications.
